[[OOC: The bulk of the text was found on an RPG journal at insanejournal, I edited out the parts the mun had added probably to make the letter flow better. It's an accurate transcipt as much as I'm able to gather from episodes "Doubt" (3x01) and "In Birth and Death" (3x02.) There are pauses and disjointed text here because that's the way the episodes were edited. It's reprinted here mainly for the mun's knowledge but also because of it's importance to the muse.]]

( Every thought that I repent, There's another chip you haven't spent. And you're cashing them all in. Where do we begin, to get clean again? Can we get clean again? I walk home alone with you, in the mood you're born into. Sometimes you let me in, and I take it on the chin. I can't get clean again. I wannna know, can we get clean again, The God of Wine comes crashing through the headlights of a car that Took you farther than you thought you'd ever want to go. We can't get back again. You can't get back again. She takes a drink and then she waits, The alcohol it permeates. And soon the sounds give way, and cancels out the day.... )

1000 Good Intentions
Rise Against

It's all the same thing
Now that it ever was
Except now you've strayed too far
Need you to stop digging your hole
And follow the path we light
Don't need an invitation to be reconciled
'cause these home fires are burning
Stare into your empty eyes and wonder...
"How could something so right (woah oh) turn out so wrong?"
You spent your time making excuses
For the ways of life that you are choosing
"How could something so right (woah oh) turn out so wrong?"
Not sure exactly where I am

The more we organize
We suck out this life that serves as the fuel behind
You wanna take the passion in my veins
And put it down in black & white
You've got your foot directly on the gas
I watch you burn out so fast
Now I can see just what you've become
And "How could something so right (woah oh) turn out so wrong?"
I don't have a backup plan
This is all that I am
And "How could something so right (woah oh) turn out so wrong?"
Not sure exactly where I am

(One!) one thousand
(Good!) intentions
(Lost!) translation
(Lost!) forever

(One!) one thousand
(Good!) intentions
(Lost!) translation
(Lost!) forever lost

"How could something so right (woah oh) turn out so wrong?"
I don't have a backup plan
This is all that I am
And "How could something so right (woah oh) turn out so wrong?"
Not sure exactly where I am
Where I am

The Right Side of Your Brain is Dominant

You have an active imagination and intuition. You have a very fluid way of thinking.

You don't put bounds or limitations on your thoughts. You are a down to earth daydreamer.

You have a broad perspective on the world. You may be a bit chaotic, but you never get stuck in a rut.

You are always able to pick up where you left off or start in the middle with something. You are a non-linear thinker.

Your Mind is Sharp

You are rational enough to see things clearly. You don't allow your mind to play tricks on you.

You have a crazy good head for facts. Once you commit something to memory, you remember it forever.

You have a reputation for being a perfectionist. You are a stickler for having things a certain way.

Even when a problem is difficult, your mind is up to the task. You can make sense of complexity.

jasongideon: ([Contrast] Show me who I am)
Gideon had what he called the “two heartbreak rule.”

It wasn’t his, in fact he had heard it from a social worker in Los Angeles when he was still a rookie and it had struck that profound chord truisms tend to do so he kept it and folded it into his own philosophy. Put simply; it said the only difference between someone who is a whole, healthy, contributing member of society and the ones who huddled under bridges, and stole for their next hit was two major, life changing injuries. It could be the death of a love one, the fall to addiction, the lost of a job or the returning of a war-haunted solider to what we called civilization. It could be finding the wife in bed with another man, or coming gradually into the realization that one in your bed is not who you want there, not even the right gender.

And once you understand that, once you embrace that the line between “us” and “them” isn’t as gaping as you first thought: all the doors open up. Then you can understand, and God willing, you can help them.

Gideon had always believed that. It was as center to his core and sense of self as his own name. Even more so then his name really, for reasons not many knew. His injuries he wore like armor. He kept them to the forefront for the ones he helped and hunted because like hurt animals; there is a kinship there just beneath the surface that stands out. Hurt knows hurt and for thirty years, he used that- he saved lives and stored them up like defenses against his own as if he could temper the pain with a book of faces he saved.

It doesn’t work that way. It never does.

But he lies to himself and says it will; because sometimes, just sometimes- he can ease the heartbreak, even ignore it. And for one more day, he can pretend the line is a little clearer than it really is.

Warnings: some ickiness behind the cut.

The girl at the grocery store was abused by her mother.

Gideon can tell by the way she reacts around her female manager, with the older female customers who snap or loom over her. She doesn’t do on purpose but it’s instinct for her to tuck herself into the corner of her register and mumble polite but soft “yes” or “no” without giving offense or room for further conversation. She’s a pretty girl but he thinks the mother called her ugly, because how her hair becomes her veil and dark, baggy clothes hide her body.

He smiles when he passes her, never intruding too far into protective sphere. She has a brilliant mind too; he’s caught glimpses of it when he purposely asks about the newspapers and wonders sometimes if she could have been something more.

( The whole gamut of good and evil is in every human being, certain notes, from stronger original quality or most frequent use, appearing to form the whole character; but they are only the tones most often heard. The whole scale is in every soul, and the notes most seldom heard will on rare occasions make themselves audible. -Fanny Kembel )
jasongideon: (You let me down (there I said it))
There are times, even now, when Jason Gideon will wake up in the middle of the night to check his cell. It’s instinct, residual from thirty plus years of past-midnight calls from his underlings or the rare serious-and-sensitive-call from his superiors about a body or bodies found in some ditch, or alleyway or farmland that require his immediate presence. He hasn’t received the call in almost four years but still he wakes, gropes for the phone in the dark, and knows it’s bad without anyone having to tell him.

It could be sixth sense, or a guilty conscience. He knows, after all, that just as his bedroom is silent there are others, his team, still disturbed by that macabre interlude. That is a certainty he never quite accepted. It’s an evil he’s never been able to swallow.

There will always be bodies found in storm drains and cellars, no matter how many they pull out. And there’s always going to be someone putting them there. He could hunt down ten or a thousand but it never slowed down the phone calls, never stopped the body count. Someone will always be there, trying to smother their own personal pain through another’s, or just for the thrill of it.

Or for no reason at all.

And four years ago he walked on his life to stop those calls. Knowing it wouldn’t.

Knowing it hasn’t.

Rain King
Counting Crows

When I think of heaven (Deliver me in a black-winged bird)
I think of flying down into a sea of pens and feathers
and all other instruments of faith and sex and God
In the belly of a black-winged bird
Don't try to feed me
I've been here before and I deserve a little more

I belong in the service of the Queen I belong anywhere but in between
She's been crying I've been thinking And I am the Rain King

Mama, why am I so alone?
I can't go outside
I'm scared I might not make it home
I'm alive but I'm sinking in
If there's anyone at home at your place
Why don't you invite me in
Don't try to bleed me
I've been there before and I deserve a little more

I belong in the service of the Queen
I belong anywhere but in between
She's been lying
I've been sinking
And I am the Rain King

Hey, I only want the same as anyone
Henderson is waiting for the sun
Oh, it seems night endlessly begins and ends
After all the dreaming I come home again...

When I think of heaven (Deliver me in a black-winged bird)
I think of dying Lay me down in a field of flame and heather
Render up my body into the burning heart of God in the belly of a black-winged bird
Don't try to bleed me
I've been here before and I deserve a little more

I belong in the service of the Queen
I belong anywhere but in between
She's been dying
I been drinking and I am the Rain King.

When he heard she had died, he made it as near as the Virginian border before his courage failed him and there he stood on the side of the road wondering if he had the strength to cross that final stretch for an hour afterwards. In the end, he visited her grave an hour before sunset on the day of the funeral and placed a stone on the marker in remembrance of the rookie he’d worked with for a. few months.

Truth was, he hadn’t known Prentiss very well, his own fault, but her lost had resonated to the very marrow of his bones because of what she had stood for, where she had served, and with whom. The details of the crime had been splashed across every news circuit and radio talk show for the past week and the whole ritual of mourning had been played out in print and on screen.

It’d been there in his hotel room, that he saw them; really saw them, for the first time in the three years. Their steps were weary, so much more so now in grief that he wondered how any of them remained standing. It was the erosion of strength first, and now purpose that each case inevitably took from them in one way or another.

Hotch was a single father now. JJ looked isolated. Garcia and Morgan seemed so interwoven that the slightest interference would bring them both down. His old friend looked angry. There was another one too, impossibly young. And lastly, Reid.

There was a stumble in Reid’s steps. He wondered if anyone else noticed it. He wondered how long the headaches had been bothering him.

And his own chest hurt as he studied each one in turn as the camera panned over them and quietly, in the pantomime of sincerity, Jason Gideon felt his hands flex as if grabbing hold of each of their shoulders could have given them strength, as if he could have taken their pain by his mere presence.

And if it could have, he would, had he the courage, or the words.

But instead, he watched from the safe distance of his hotel room as each one of them made their uneasy way towards the grave and then disappeared from view. He had a hundred different things he wanted to say to them; apologies interwoven with encouragement but they never reached his lips and their ears. There was too much distance there.

Too much guilt.

OOC: Let's try to wake up dead muses, yea?

Ask me a question about one or all of the following:

- Friends
- Sex
- Music
- Drugs
- Love
- The future

No matter how rude, sexual, or confidential I will answer the question(s) truthfully.
jasongideon: (You let me down (there I said it))

...you dumb bastard. I miss you.
jasongideon: (Dark peircing eyes)
I'm sorry I've been MIA lately, and of the myriad of excuses I could offer, it'd be best to just offer up my apologies instead.

( How onimous is my song choice? I think I need new music. )

OOC: Computer woes, new job training and general fatigue has passed. My apologies to everyone I left hanging.

I do. In fact, the one I’m working through right now is my fourth. I started them when I was nineteen at the hospital. I liked having the escape and hope in a tangible way. Something to work towards and I try to go for the outlandish, as well as the sincere. It’s surprising actually how often you voice your dreams do ways for them to become possible tend to open up. So, in no particular order:

It was this or compare myself to who I was ten years ago. Maybe I'll do that meme tomorrow. Instead, thank mini me B2 for the band choice on this one.

Pick a band/artist, and answer the questions using titles from their songs:

1. Choose a band/artist:

OOC: To make sure I drop any plots or subplots, I’m going to split up the sws/incitethemuse verses pretty soon. As soon as my meds stop making me woolly headed I’ll be able to figure out how best to break things up that’s good for all plots. Thanks!

( Knock, knock...are you alone? No one's out here and I was not followed. Love, love...you're already home. Party's over and you don't look so good. You find your way back down.
